Roulette: The Game of Luck and Guts!

Albert Einstein once said that the only way of winning roulette is to steal money while the croupier is busy. Roulette is indeed the most challenging casino game. Its risk-return relationship is much steeper. Well, that’s what makes die-hard sporting men addicted to it. Roulette is the French legacy. European settlers introduced it in North America in the early 19th century. And it has climbed the chart ever since, leaving poker and blackjack behind at times. In this article, we’ll explain everything to comprehend and master the American roulette.

What is Roulette?

Roulette is a straightforward game. It consists of a wheel and a betting layout. The layout is further divided into outside and inside structures. The inside one has consecutive 36 numbers –colored alternatively black and red – arranged in three vertical columns. Besides, zero and double-zero locate at the top. On the other hand, the outside layout offers group bets. You can bet on reds or blacks, evens or odds, 1-18 or 19-36, and any of three dozens or three columns.

The dealer spins the ball clockwise in the roulette wheel. It eventually falls into one of 38 numbers. That number is marked, and all other bets are removed. Then, the winning gamblers are paid out accordingly.

How to Play?

First, check out the table sign. It will inform the minimum chip value as well as betting limits. Afterward, the dealer will provide you coloured chips against your money. They distinguish each player on the table but worth nothing. Don’t forget to exchange them with standard chips before leaving the table.

Now, you’re ready to make bets. You can bet on the outside layout, as mentioned earlier. Or you can go for inside bets. The options are the following:

  • Straight-up: Betting on a single number. It pays 35 to 1.
  • Split: Betting on the mutual line of two numbers. It pays 17 to 1.
  • Corner: Betting on the corner of four numbers. It pays 8 to 1.
  • Trio: Betting on three numbers, including one zero or double zero. It pays 11 to 1.
  • Street: Betting on the horizontal line of three numbers. It pays 11 to 1.
  • Double Street: Betting on the intersection of two horizontal lines, totalling six numbers. It pays 5 to 1.
  • Topline: Playing a double street on the top line, having five numbers (0, 00, 1, 2, 3). It pays 6 to 1.

Strategies & How to Win

Roulette is not poker. Luck always dominates the skill. However, the mathematical claims that the house always wins are not entirely true for individuals. There are few strategies to hit the jackpot.

  • Don’t bet on the top line. It increases house advantage to 50%.
  • Rely more on outside bets.
  • Cover the table as much as you can.
  • Steadily progress the bet every time you lose.
  • Look out for European roulette. It has a single zero wheel.
  • Don’t play for too long.

Landing on a casino with the en prison rule lowers the risk.
